Eldon Brooker “Bud” Jeske, age 90, of Montrose, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at the Allina Buffalo Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1918, in Montrose, to Herman W. and Goldie (Brooker) Jeske. Eldon was baptized and attended Sunday school at the Montrose Methodist Church. He attended the public school in Montrose.
Eldon served in the Army during World War II.
In 1941, Eldon was united in marriage to Marie Younkin from Paynesville. They made their home in Montrose for a few years, and then moved to Mound. While living in Mound, Eldon was employed as a cabinetmaker.
In 1958, they moved their family to the Rockford area, and Bud opened his own cabinet shop, which he continued to operate until 1980.
Bud and Helen spent their winters near McAllen, TX and would return to Minnesota during the warmer months. Many friends from Montrose and Buffalo would also be in the McAllen area, and there always seemed to be a get-together at one park or another for the Wright County people.
Helen passed away in 1994, and Eldon stayed at the lake until November of 2003. At that time, he moved back to the hometown of Montrose, less than two blocks from where he was born.
Bud was a lifelong cabinet maker, working out of the lake Martha area. He was a loving family man, and enjoyed spending time with children, especially his grandchildren, which he cherished.
Bud was known for having a good sense of humor, being quick with a joke, and enjoying a good laugh. He was always ready for a family get-together, because he knew there would be good food, lots of activity, and especially lots of little children.
In addition to his wife, Helen, Eldon was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Jeske; son Eldon B. Jeske Jr.; daughter-in-law Mary (Amdahl) Jeske; brothers and sisters-in-law Gordon and Irene Jeske, and Raymond and Carol Jeske; and sister and brother-in-law Edna and Kenneth Pischel.
Eldon is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Roger Stromenger, and Joni and Dean Falde; son Stephen Jeske; daughter-in-law Sandra Jeske; granddaughters Debra and Mark Ordorff, Dawn and Dan Marquette, Karri (Falde) Degendorfer, Brenda (Jacob) Morton, and Lindsay Geyen and fiancé Trevor Fritz; grandsons Rick Jeske, Mike and Deana Jeske, Patrick Jeske, and Jeremy Jeske; 16 great- grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral services took place Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Montrose with the Rev. Ingrid Bloom officiating. Interment was at the Kreidler Cemetery in Montrose, with military honors provided by Delano American Legion Post 377.
Casket bearers were Nick Ordorff, Josh Ordorff, Brandon Ordorff, Cory Jeske, Mark Ordorff, and Dan Marquette.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
