George G. Jones, 91

George Gilbert Jones, age 91, of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center.

The funeral service is Monday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with interment following the service at Howard Lake City Cemetery. The Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfield will officiate. Nancy Butterfass will serve as organist.

Visitation was Sunday, March 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and continues Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Jones, Brad Smith, Tim Munson, Tom Smarch, Mike Warzeha, and Robert Evenski.

Arrangements are being handled by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.

George was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Middleville Township, near Highland, north of Howard Lake, the son of William and Ida (Rice) Jones.  As an adult. he was baptized and confirmed Dec. 19, 1943, by the Rev. E.N. Seltz at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.

 George was married to Dorothy Adams Oct. 6, 1943, in a double ceremony with Dorothy’s sister, Lois, who married Roger Munson, at St. James Church with the Rev. E.N. Seltz officiating. 

George and Dorothy were blessed with three children.  They made their home and living on a farm north of Howard Lake. 

In 1958, when his brother, Albert, passed away, George took over his backhoe business, ditching and tiling for many farmers, and digging water and sewer lines for town residents.  

After 50 years of marriage, Dorothy was called to her heavenly home.  George continued to live in their home on the farm until this winter, when he entered the Good Samaritan Care Center. 

In addition to his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ida Jones; sisters Jennie Taylor, Della Meehan, Anna McClay, Ida Vealetzek-Farchmin, Mary Hohag, Irene Shanks, and two infant sisters; brothers Albert and William; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Marie Adams; sister-in-law LaVerne Krohn and her husband, George; and brother-in-law Roger Munson.

He is survived by his children; daughter Dianne (Verne) Evenski of Grand Rapids, MI; sons Rodney (Bonnie) of Howard Lake, and Brent (Mary) of Belle Plain; sister Alice Prickett of Winsted; sister-in-law Lois (Munson) Kratochwill of Howard Lake;  seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of family and friends.
