Gordon Larson, age 82, of rural Annandale, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Middleville Township, Wright County, the son of Emil and Edith Johnson Larson. Gordon was baptized Feb. 27, 1927, and instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Mount Hermon Lutheran Church in 1942.
Gordon graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1944. He later attended two years at the Minneapolis School of Music for voice.
Gordon was joined in holy marriage to Genevieve Carlson Nov. 18, 1950, at Mount Hermon Lutheran Church.
Gordon and Genevieve engaged in dairy farming for many years.
Gordon was hard-working and driven, but always took the time to show his quiet sense of humor. He could make farm chores and activities like picking rocks “family time” his children truly enjoyed.
Gordon took great pleasure in livening up family gatherings with recreational tractor and hayrack rides that took the bumpiest, muddiest routes possible. He was fond of keeping his grandchildren on their toes with give-and-take sessions of good-natured teasing on recurring topics.
A lifelong, faithful member of Mount Hermon Lutheran Church, Gordon was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and was generous in sharing it when asked to sing solos at many Sunday morning worship services, weddings, and funerals.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Genevieve Y. Larson; children: James “Jim” Larson of Shoreview, Penny (Steve) Hinderaker of Minneapolis, Belinda Larson and Brian (Katy) Larson, all of Howard Lake; eight grandchildren: SSGT Jacob (Carly) USAF, Emma and Maddie, Rachel and Mollie, Abby, Jack and Gabriel; and a great-grandchild, Benjamin.
Gordon is further survived by sisters, Lorraine (Don) Carlson of Hopkins, and Norma (Carl) Carlson of Annandale; a brother, Dan (Joan) Larson of Bloomington; a sister-in-law, Lou Ann (Larson) Houlton of Elk River; brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Lawrence Carlson of Buffalo and Verona (Bernard) Broman of Plainfield, IN; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Larson; his parents; and by a brother, Phil Larson.
