Leonard “Lenny” Laxen, age 83, of Chaska, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
He was born Jan. 9, 1926, in Winsted, to Bernard and Helena (Quast) Laxen. Lenny was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and attended the parochial school.
Lenny served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, overseas during World War II.
He married Clara Jaskowiak May 16, 1950, at St. Albert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. They had 8 children.
Lenny was employed at the Coast-to-Coast Warehouse in St. Louis Park for 20 years, and also drove school bus for Salden Bus, Chaska, for 24 years.
He was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, the Chanhassen American Legion, the Chaska VFW, and the DAV of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margie Fasching; and a brother-in-law, Ted Zuk.
Lenny is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Clara; sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Rhonda, Paul and Mary, all of Shakopee, Timothy and May of Hayward, CA, and William and Kolleen of Chaska; daughters and son-in-law, Sharon Laxen of Chaska, Sandra and John Kuhn of New Richmond, WI, Nancy Nelson of Chaska, and Patricia Laxen of Novato, CA; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Robert (Helen), and Clarence (Lidwena), all of Winsted; and sisters Hermina Zuk of Sturgeon Lake, Rosalie (Dick) Hesse of Lake Elmo, and Diane (Roger) Thompson of Winsted.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Chaska, with Father Paul Jarvis celebrating. The family received friends two hours prior to the Mass. There will be a private family inurnment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Funeral arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home of Chaska.
