Winnifred LeBovsky Obituary – 1/28/09


Winnifred M. LeBovsky, age 102, of Delano died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Delano.

She was born May 26, 1906, to William and Marguerite (Curran) Dunn in Minneapolis.

Winnifred grew up in Minneapolis and attended the Hiawatha Portabler School, the Simmons School, and graduated from South High. She continued her education at the St. Cloud Teachers College, where she completed her teaching certificate.

Winnifred then took a position teaching at a rural school in Rogers, and eventually taught the intermediate grades at schools in Brooklyn Center and Richfield.

Winnifred was united in marriage to Frank LeBovsky Feb. 7, 1942, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Anoka. The couple made their home in Anoka.

After her marriage, Winnifred went back to school, attending the University of Minnesota to complete her college degree.

Between 1944 and 1955, Winnifred and Frank made their home and living in Delano; working in the family store.

They moved back to the cities in 1955, buying a home in Crystal. Here, Frank took a job working for Fox’s Men’s Store in Fridley, a position he held until retirement. Winnifred resumed teaching, taking a substitute teacher position in District 281, which she continued until retirement.

After Frank’s death, Winnifred moved back to Delano, and resided there until her death.

In additon to her husband, Frank, Winnifred was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Horsch.

She is survived by sisters-in-law Ruth Russek and Madeline Lebovsky; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Feb. 2 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano with the Rev. Michael Rudolph officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
