Dorothy Louella Lindemann, age 89, of Dassel, formerly of Hutchinson, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at the Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.
She was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Lincoln, IL, the daughter of Stoy and Anna (Kenshalo) Fleshman. As a young girl, her family moved to Minneapolis, and resided in the Loring Park neighborhood.
She attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis West High School in 1937.
Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, had been a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, and was presently a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth Lindemann Sept. 3, 1938, in Minneapolis. They celebrated 66 years of marriage, during which the couple made their home in Minneapolis and Edina. In 1989, they moved to Hutchinson, where they made their home until Ken’s death Feb. 19, 2004. Dorothy moved to the Lakeside Apartments in Dassel in 2004, and had resided there since.
The consummate homemaker, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to listen to and watch the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, spent many hours gardening and reading, and loved to travel. Dorothy crocheted many hats and mittens that she gave to the school. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her son-in-law, Peter (Cleo) Johnson of Dassel; grandson Todd (Brenda) Johnson of Dassel; granddaughter Wendy (Jeff) Lindquist of St. Michael; and eight great-grandchildren, Christina (Albert) Martinez, Jesse, Alicia, and Dani Jo Johnson, and Peter, James, Patrick, and Thomas Lindquist.
In addition to her husband, Kenneth, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; daughter Kay Ann Johnson; her parents; and a sister, Doris Fowler.
The funeral service took place Thursday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with visitation for one hour preceding the service at the church. The Rev. Keith Carlson officiated. Harvey Peterson was the organist, and the soloist was Sheldon Hedin, who sang “His Eye is on the Sparrow” and “The King is Coming.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment followed at the Dassel Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Peter Lindquist, James Lindquist, Patrick Lindquist, Thomas Lindquist, Jessie Johnson, Jeff Lindquist, and Todd Johnson. Honorary casket bearers were Albert and Christina Martinez, Alicia Johnson, and Dani Jo Johnson.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
