Esther Marie Lorentz, age 95, of Howard Lake, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Plymouth.
Esther attended grade school at Dutch Lake Country School from first through sixth grade. She attended St. James Lutheran School in the seventh and eighth grades.
Esther was confirmed by Pastor Seltz in 1928, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Esther then stayed home to help on the family farm on Lake Emma.
She married Ervin Henry Leo Lorentz from rural Annandale Nov. 28, 1935. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Harvey, Jeanne, and Mavis.
Esther enjoyed dominos, word finds, cards, gardening, baking, sewing, and quilting. She loved the time she spent quilting with the ladies from St. James for many years. When her children were growing up, she would sew clothes made from other people’s “hand-me-downs.”
Esther would hum as she worked. She was a peace with herself and God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; parents Henry and Emma Dehnbostel; brothers William and Walter Dehnbostel; and a sister, Edna Butterfass.
Esther is survived by her sister, Eva Glessing; her children, Harvey Lorentz of Ohio, Jeanne Matasovsky of Plymouth, and Mavis McKeever of Roseville; seven grandchildren: John, Sara, Joel, Lisa, Kelly, Tricia, and Kyle; and eight great-grandchildren: Olivia, David, Anthony, Roman, Annika, Britta, Erik, and Emma.
Funeral services took place Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Interment was at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Esther’s pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
