James “Jim” Robert Lundsten, age 81, of Delano, passed away at his home Monday, May 11, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 23, 1927, to Clifford and Lorna (Olson) Lundsten in Delano.
A 1945 graduate of Delano High School, Jim joined the Army and served in Korea before coming home and attending the University of Minnesota.
Upon graduation, he joined the family business of Lundsten Lumber Co. until he sold it in 1988.
Jim was very active in the Delano community. He was a founding member of the Delano Planning Commission, a director of the Delano Community Chest, worked with the Boy Scouts, was one of the founders of the Crow River Bank, served as general overseer of the Gazebo Project in the Park, served on the building committee of St. Peter’s Church, was a member of Delano American Legion, and was active in Delano and Surprise Grand/Arizona Lions clubs.
Jim and his wife, Ann, were honored as Delano Citizens of the year in 1997.
Jim loved to spend time with his family and friends, and will be remembered for his quick wit and tender heart.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; sons William, Michael and fiancée Kathy Barrett, and Thomas and wife Elizabeth; sisters Patricia Fritz and Mary Alice Wetter; as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; cousins; nieces, nephews; and numerous friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Lorna Lundsten.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, May 16 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano with the Rev. Christopher Wenthe officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by Delano American Legion Post 377, was in the Calvary cemetery in Delano.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
