Emmett D. Lynch Obituary – 5/28/09


Emmett D. Lynch, age 84, of Watertown, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 28, 2009, with his family by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Frank Wampach officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, May 31 from 3 to 8 p.m., and will continue Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, with a rosary at 9:30 a.m.

Arrangements are by the Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home.

Emmett was born Nov. 12, 1924, to John and Josephine (Hausladen) Lynch in Hollywood Township.

He was united in marriage to Lorraine Swartzer Jan. 20, 1951, at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Delano.

Emmett was a longtime City of Watertown employee.

He was devout in his faith and was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.

Emmett loved to hunt, and trips “up to the Shack” or out west to Montana were something he loved to do. Hunting for any kind of game was a passion, as long as family and friends were part of the experience.

He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who will miss his big bear hugs. He took every one of his grandchildren fishing and taught most of them how to clean their own fish.

Emmett was proud of his Irish heritage; he was quick with a good story and a funny tale. He was able to travel to Ireland to see his family’s homeland.

He was never in such a hurry, that he couldn’t stop and socialize.

Emmett was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret; parents John and Josephine Lynch; brother and sister-in-law Edward and Genevieve Lynch; parents-in-law George and Susan Swartzer; and brothers-in-law Ben Lachermeier; Jack Swartzer, George Swartzer, Tom Kuka, and Leo Blackketter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorraine; children Mary and Fred Muhs, Pat and Joan Lynch, Mike and Cindy Lynch, Emmett J. and Belinda Lynch, Joe and Mary Lynch, and Tim and Debbie Lynch; 18 grandchildren, Greg Muhs and special friend Amy, Laura and Brian McSwain, Stephanie Muhs and special friend Karl, Katie and Adam Leuthner, Emily Lynch, Anna and Ryan Sandquist, Aaron Lynch, Matt Lynch and fiancée Paige, Christine Lynch, Colleen and Tim Norman, Cordell Lynch, Audrey Lynch, Emmett James Lynch, Allison Lynch and fiancé Corey, Amy Lynch, Rachel, and Amanda and Victoria Lynch; and four great-grandchildren Addison and Paul Leuthner, Camden Norman, and Layla Sandquist.

Emmett is further survived by siblings Marcella Lachermeier, Leon Lynch, Ambrose Lynch, and Jim Lynch; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Walter and Irene Swartzer, Marguerite Swartzer, Betty and Louie Bury, Joe and Dorothy Swartzer, Rosemary Swartzer, Luverne Blackketter, Marion Kuka, Susan and Ed Windsperger, Marvin Swartzer, Bob and Mary Swartzer, Irvin and Renee Swartzer, Gene and Mary Helen Swartzer, Tony and Sandy Swartzer, Peter and Alice Swartzer, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
