Marjorie Louise Mattson, age 93, of Buffalo, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Park Terrace Memory Care Facility in Buffalo.
She was born April 21, 1915, in Cokato, the daughter of Ludvig “Nels” and Louise Stevenson. Marjorie was baptized Sept. 4, 1915, in Minneapolis, and confirmed in her faith May 27, 1928, at Cokato Lutheran Church.
Marjorie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo for 70 years.
She married Willard “Bill” Mattson Nov. 13, 1937, who preceded her in death in 1985.
An extremely loving mother and grandmother, Marj was loved by everyone who met her. She touched many people’s lives.
Along with being very talented with ceramics and china painting, Marj was an accomplished knitter and was involved in many activities at Zion Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her two children, Carol Arko of Buffalo, and Dr. Neil Mattson of Cokato; a sister, Betty Corwin of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Mark (Robyn) Kindahl, Shannon Mattson, Melody Hoffman, Sven Mattson, Luke Mattson, and Terry (Maggie) Arko; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Bill, Marjorie was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Ramberg and Stanley Stevenson.
The funeral service took place Monday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Pastor Chris Hagen officiated, Diane Johnson played the organ, and Sheldon Hedin sang. Interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Sven Mattson, Luke Mattson, Mark Kindahl, Gary Stevenson, Craig Stevenson, and Richard Ramberg.
Visitation was from 4-8 pm Sunday at The Peterson Chapel Buffalo Funeral Home, and continued Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
