Vila J. Milan, 78

Vila Jean Milan, age 78, of Litchfield, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.

She was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Kimball, the daughter of Everett and Pearl (Houghton) Hilary. Vila grew up and received her education in Kimball, graduating in 1948.

She spent the next two years continuing her education at Minnesota Bible College.

Vila was united in marriage to Calvin Milan in Kimball June 26, 1950.

They moved to Chippewa Falls in 1950, a year later they moved to Clarion, Iowa, and then moved to O’Neill, NE and spent the next four years there. In 1974, they made their home in Litchfield, where Calvin served as a pastor from 1974 to 1991.

Vila starting teaching piano when she was in high school and continued teaching many students throughout her life. She was a dedicated pastor’s wife, serving as organist and pianist in the Litchfield Christian Church and the United Methodist Church. Vila also accompanied the Litchfield Area Male Chorus and South Fork Singers.

She will be remembered for sharing her music and faith throughout the community. She played during Watercade services and at senior dining, as well as for many other public activities.

She was a member of the Litchfield Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Club.

In addition to her passion for music, Vila enjoyed spending time reading, watching birds, and being around friends and family. She loved to eat pie, and always had a dog to keep her company.

Vila is survived by her children, Jan (and Dave) Pease, and Jim Milan, all of Litchfield; her granddaughter, Rebecca of Litchfield; her brother, Harland (and Ruth) Hilary of St. Michael; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Calvin, in 2003; and infant grandson, Nathaniel Pease.

A memorial service took place Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at the Litchfield Christian Church, with visitation for two hours prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
