Melvin Harold Miller, age 79, of Silver Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
He was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Cokato, the son of Ephraim and Ella Wright Miller. Melvin was baptized Nov. 10, 1929, at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Cokato by Pastor August Hurula. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato.
Melvin honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1955.
He was joined in holy marriage with Delores A. Kosek April 27, 1957, at the rectory of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
Melvin was formerly employed at the gas company in Cokato, Silver Lake Public School as a custodian, as a bus driver for Silver Lake Public School, and as a janitor at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing, and playing cards.
Melvin was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Delores A. Miller; a sister, Arlene Satterlee of Cokato; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ephraim and Ella Miller; nine brothers and sisters; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Kathryn Kosek.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Brian Oeistreich was the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday, Dec. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Casket bearers were Jason Babatz, David Kosek, Mark Kosek, Dustin Diers, Ben Beckman, and Tom Beckman.
The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake served the family.
