Larry G. Nelson, age 62, of New Germany, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, April 10, 2009.
Larry was born July 8, 1946, in Topeka, KS, the son of Louis C. and LaVerne (Graham) Nelson. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Topeka, and later confirmed at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mound.
He was a graduate of Mound High School.
Larry was united in marriage to Nancy C. Blank Nov. 25, 1980, in South Dakota.
He worked as a brick layer in the construction field.
A loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Larry loved to go on carnival rides and play the games, and spend his time on the lake fishing, all year round. He also always had a fond affection for horses.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis C. Nelson; son-in-law James Martin; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Ruth Drazkowski.
Larry is loved and missed by his wife, Nancy; daughters and son-in-law Tammy and Mike Kukowski of Delano, Sherry Martin of St. Louis Park, and Bonnie Dunn of Waconia; grandchildren Ryan, Briana and Tom, Travis, Troy, Chris, Jeana, and Dustin; and great-grandchildren James and Shaye.
He is further survived by his mother, LaVerne Nelson of Mound; brothers and sister-in-law Donald and Denise Nelson of Minnetonka, and Louis Nelson of Britt; sisters and brother-in-law Joyce and Larry Schlehuber of Clinton, MI, and Nancy Lyman of Morris; uncle Warren Nelson of Dassel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law William and Mary Blank of Winona and Sherry and Jim Muras of Winona; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Monday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy J. LaPlant officiating. Interment was at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were John Fisher, Roger Venske, Jerome Worm, Sam Sandquist, Wendel Clark, and Dennis Brelje.
