Joyce Ella (Shelton) Nordstrom, age 70, of Dassel, formerly of Litchfield, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
A memorial service will take place Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Dassel, with the Revs. Dale Swartz and Seth Ross officiating.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and will continue Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Joyce was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Kokomo, IN, the daughter of Emory and Mildred (Puterbaugh) Macy. Joyce was baptized and confirmed in the Church of God and was presently a member of the Litchfield Church of God.
She graduated from high school in 1957 in Gatesville, Texas.
She was united in marriage to Rupert (Tex) Shelton at the Church of God in Litchfield in 1960. They made their home in the Litchfield area.
Joyce was united in marriage to Earl Nordstrom Aug. 30, 1986, at the Litchfield Church of God. They made their home in Dassel.
An accomplished pianist and organist, Joyce played the organ and piano at many churches in the area. She loved to travel, visiting over 30 countries around the world, as well as most of the states in our country, and going to family reunions in Ohio and Canada many times.
Joyce and Earl would spend their winters in Texas, where they had many friends and were always busy.
Joyce sewed custom draperies for 20 years, and later owned a yarn shop and custom-designed knitting and crochet patterns, published for leading companies.
She lived a rich life and was well loved by her family and friends. Joyce will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Nordstrom of Dassel; children Brent (Holly) Shelton of Minneapolis, Brenda (David) Thoma of Annandale, Mark and (Cindy) Nordstrom of Inver Grove Heights, and Michelle (Bill) Marschall of Dassel; brother Emory “EL” (Ruth) Macy of Dixon, MO; and sisters Cheryl (Pastor Kent) Ross of Springfield, OH, and Karla Biggar of Phoenix, AZ.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; a stillborn daughter; a brother, Wendell; and a brother-in-law, Bob Biggar.
