Edmund Edward Nowak Sr., age 77, of Silver Lake, died Monday, May 25, 2009, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
He was born Nov. 16, 1931, in Hale Township, McLeod County, the son of Louis and Louise Pokornowski Nowak.
Edmund was joined in holy marriage with Bernadine V. Fasching Sept. 1, 1954, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Edmund engaged in dairy farming all of his life in Hale Township.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
A faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, Edmund also belonged to The Catholic Order of Foresters Holy Trinity Court 1054 and The Silver Lake American Legion Post 141.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bernadine V. Nowak; children: Joseph (Cindy) Nowak, Donald (Yvonne) Nowak, all of Silver Lake, Catherine (Allen) Kerber of Arlington, and Edmund (Wendy) Nowak Jr. of Silver Lake; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Louis (Yvonne) Nowak Jr. of Silver Lake, and Clarence (Margie) Nowak of Neosho, MO; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Louise; and by a brother, Felix Nowak.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Interment with military rites followed at Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, May 28 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Casket bearers were Carrie Blomer, Kellie Oestrich, Christine Lau, Derek Nowak, Kimberly Kerber, Matthew Kerber, Joleen Nowak, and Melanie Nowak.
The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake served the family.
