Norris Lyndon Olson, age 80, of Dassel, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 21, 1929, at the Cokato Hospital, the son of Oscar D. and Madge (Lowry) Olson. Norris was confirmed and baptized through the Dassel Covenant Church.
Norris grew up on a farm south of Dassel, and began first grade in the Collinwood School. He transferred to the Dassel Public School in fifth grade, and finished there.
When the Korean War broke out, Norris was drafted and served two years in the armed services, part of the time overseas.
He was united in marriage to Evangeline “Vannie” Nelson May 1, 1953, at the Covenant Church in Buffalo. They made their home and raised a family on a farm south of Norris’ boyhood home, and Norris farmed with his father, Oscar Olson.
After retiring from farming, Norris spent some time selling seed corn.
He and Vannie moved to the Lakeside Apartments after he was retired.
The Evangelical Covenant Church was very important to Norris, and he was a longtime member. He enjoyed the fellowship there with the members and friends.
Norris loved everyone and kept up communication with relatives and friends from near and far. He had a special love for his late wife and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In his retirement years, he enjoyed sharing his carmel rolls, cakes, and other homemade goodies. Norris will be missed by his family and numerous friends.
He is survived by his children, Keith (Jan) of St. Cloud, Kurt of Hutchinson, Alan (Nancy) of Dassel, and Mary Beth (Brian) Good of Litchfield; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Olson and daughter Jerriah of Rochester, Jacob (Jessica) Olson and their children, Evan and Haylee, of Clearwater, Andrea (Eric) Christensen of Rochester, Stephanie (John) Rammel of Sartell, Tara Olson and her son, Myles, of Rochester, and Eric and Michael Good of Litchfield; and siblings Marilyn Olson of Minnetonka, and Kenneth (Lynnette) of Edina.
Norris was preceded in death by his wife, Vannie, Dec. 26, 2008; an infant daughter at birth; his parents, Oscar and Madge Olson; and sisters Dorothy Tengwall and Clarice Swanson.
The funeral service took place Tuesday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. Interment followed at the Dassel Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday evening, April 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, and continued Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
