Leona H. Parpart, 83

Leona H. Parpart, age 83, of New Germany, died Wednesday Aug, 26, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Cologne.

She was born April 14, 1926, in Camden Township, Carver County, the daughter of August and Martha (Zuehl) Henning. Leona was baptized May 9, 1926, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Theodore Rolf, and confirmed by the same March 17, 1940.

Leona was united in marriage to Charles L. Parpart June 8, 1943, at St. Mark Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Meyer.

A loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Leona was a farmer’s daughter and a farmer’s wife. Her parents not only lived with them on the farm, but she took care of them until the end on their lives.

Leona loved the farm and her garden, sewing nightgowns for her children, and sewing quilts. She especially enjoyed family gatherings, where she would cook and bake to make sure everyone would have enough to take home; you never left hungry.

Leona was the glue that kept the family together. She was, by nature, quiet and a bit shy. She never asked for much, but gave with everything she had to give.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, March 23, 1991; a daughter, Shirley, in infancy; father and mother, August and Martha Henning; a brother, Leonard Henning; and a sister-in-law, Anna Henning Mielke.

Leona is survived by her loving family; children and spouses Dianne Weege of Norwood, David and Sandy Parpart of Delano, Denise and Allen Storms of Cologne, and Daniel and Cheryl Parpart of Plato; grandchildren Michael and Riza Weege, Caryn and James Solberg, Mandy Parpart, Eric Parpart, Jeremy and Tara Parpart, and Stacy and Ken Peterson; step-grandchildren Andrew, Elizabeth, and Rebecca Templin; and great-grandchildren Jesika Miller, Dillon and Devan Parpart, Megan Gaulke, Owen and Lauren Peterson, John “Matt,” Joshua, and Nicholas Weege.

She is further survived by brother and sister-in-law Gerhard and Lorena Henning of Holland, MI; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends; and her constant companion, Nellie.

The funeral service took place Saturday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with visitation for two hours prior to the service at the church. The Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiated, and interment was in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, New Germany.

Leona’s loving grandchildren were her casket bearers.

Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia. Online condolences to the family are available at www.johnsonfh.com.
