Clifford “Tiny” Paulson, age 71, of Moose Lake, a former teacher and coach at Dassel Cokato High School, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday morning, July 1, 2009.
He was born Aug. 30, 1937, in Barnum to Russell and Mildred Paulson.
Cliff resided in Moose Lake, and graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1955. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead.
While attending college, Cliff met Charlotte Petry. Cliff and Charlotte were united in marriage Sept. 6, 1958 ,at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. They resided in Moorhead while Cliff finished college.
Cliff graduated from Concordia College in May of 1959 with a bachelor of science degree in education. Cliff accepted his first teaching position at Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. After one year, he accepted another teaching position at Hitterdal, MN. He taught 2 years before accepting a position at Twin Valley; he then taught two years before accepting a teaching position at Brooten, and he taught four years there before accepting a position at Cokato. Cliff finished out the remainder of his teaching career in the Dassel-Cokato School District.
Cliff retired after 35 years of teaching science, biology, driver’s training, and motorcycle training. He also coached football and wrestling throughout his career.
In addition to teaching, Cliff was involved with Cokato Ambulance, the Cokato Lions, and Boy Scouts.
Cliff’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, woodworking, and planting pine trees.
Upon his retirement, Cliff and Charlotte moved to Moose Lake, where they built their retirement log home.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mildred Paulson.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte; two sons, Clifford “Butch” Paulson (Patty) of Cokato, and Chris R. Paulson, (Sandy Thull) of Moose Lake; one daughter, Cathleen M. ]ones (Dale) of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; three brothers, Bud Paulson, (Beverly) of Moose Lake, Gordon Paulson of Barnum, and Rodney Paulson (Marie) of Moose Lake; three sisters, Isabelle Walker (Tom) of Barnum, Deloris Johnson of Exeland, WI, and Betty Larson of Kettle River; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake, with visitation Wednesday evening, July 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral chapel, Moose Lake.
In addition, a memorial service took place Saturday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church, with a gathering one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements were with the Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Chapel in Moose Lake; and the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
