Elaine Dorothy Pawelk

Elaine Dorothy Pawelk, age 86, of Waverly, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

She was born May 17, 1922, in Woodland Township, Wright County, the daughter of Magnus and Alice Lindgren Jorgensen. Elaine was baptized Nov. 26, 1922, and also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith Sept. 1, 1935, at NyLunda Lutheran Church in rural Howard Lake.

Elaine graduated salutatorian of her high school class in Watertown.

Elaine and DeLloyd Pawelk were joined in holy marriage Nov. 28, 1946, at NyLunda Lutheran Church in rural Howard Lake.

The couple engaged in dairy farming on the family farm for many years.

Elaine enjoyed flowers, gardening, and loved all of nature, especially birds and her cats. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

She was preceded in death by her husband, DeLloyd Pawelk, in 1997; her parents, Magnus and Alice Jorgensen; three brothers, Myles, Ordean, killed in action in World War II, and DeVern Jorgensen; and by a sister, Orlyn Knott.

Elaine is survived by a sister, Dolores Domjahn of Montrose; a brother, Glen (Diane) Jorgensen of Waverly; a brother-in-law, Norbert Knott of New Germany; brothers-in-law Orville and Bonnie Pawelk, Eldor and Joan Pawelk, Eldon and Barbara Pawelk, and Kenneth and Germaine Pawelk; sisters-in-law Adeline Pawelk and Pricilla and Wayne Sievert; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services took place Sunday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Sharon Pingree was the organist, and Bruce Gatz was the soloist. Congregational hymns were “Asleep in Jesus! Blessed Sleep,” “Take My Hand Precious Lord” and “Just a closer Walk with Thee.” Interment followed at Nylunda Lutheran Cemetery in rural Howard Lake.

Visitation was Saturday, Jan. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Casket bearers were Rodney Domjahn, Randy Knott, Ronald Jorgensen, Terry Jorgensen, Jerry Schultz and Keith Pool.

Memorials are suggested for Nylunda Lutheran Cemetery.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
