Bernice O. Peterson Obituary – 2/12/09


Bernice Olivia Peterson, age 90, of Elk River, formerly of Annandale and South Haven, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at the Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home.

She was born April 5, 1918, in Cokato, to John and Anna (Engstrom) Olson.

Bernice married DeVore Forsberg Aug. 3, 1936, and he preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1951.

She married Carl Peterson June 2, 1962, and he preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1992.

Bernice was a homemaker and worked at 3M in Hutchinson for 28 years.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, South Haven.

Bernice is survived by her daughters, Shirley Kirchoff of Elk River, and Darlene (Donald) Sell of Fairfax; sisters Mae Juul of Annandale, and Ruth Swanson of Buffalo; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, Bernice was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Grass; a son-in-law, Elroy Kirchoff; a grandson, Mark Kirchoff; brothers Earl and Clarence Olson; and sisters Mildred Olson, Corrine Johnson, and Doris Myhre.

The funeral service took place Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in South Haven with the Rev. Michael Nelson officiating. Steven Kirchoff was the urnbearer, and pianist was Lynda Peterson. Interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends called Monday, Feb. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale. There was a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
