Glen Peterson, age 83, of Watertown, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at his home.
Glen was born on the family farm Feb. 10, 1926, in Franklin Township, the son of John T. and Lena (Norstrom) Peterson. He lived most of his life in the family house on the farm, which was homesteaded in 1869.
Glen was baptized Oct. 17, 1936, at the Gotaholm Evangelical Lutheran Church (Trinity Lutheran Church) in Watertown by the Rev. E. H. Becker, and confirmed May 25, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. M. William Anderson.
He graduated from Watertown Public School June 5, 1944.
Glen was united in marriage to Adelle Charlotte Swanson Aug. 8, 1952, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. To this union, nine children were born.
Glen served on the Trinity Lutheran Church council for six years. He was involved with Christmas decorating and summer picnic committees for several years, and served as an usher for 40 years.
He also served as president of FFA in 1942.
Glen farmed all his life and raised dairy cattle. In his later years he fulfilled his life-long ambition of sawing lumber on the family farm.
Glen enjoyed singing with the church choir and the Delano Senior Center Choir and Hillbilly band. He entertained himself, his children, and grandchildren by singing and playing his guitar.
He traveled to Sweden six times to visit relatives. Glen was interested in family history, friends, the weather, and his farm cats.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Tell Peterson in 1961, and Koralina “Lena” Wilhelmina Norstrom Peterson in 1985; a son-in-law, Tom Kentfield; and a sister, Gloria Ione in 1992.
Glen is missed and loved by his wife, Adelle; children and spouses Sandy and Lucian Vittori of Roseville, Ronald W. Peterson of Minneapolis, Jim and Dawn Peterson of Glencoe, Jerry and Patti Peterson of Watertown, Carol and Ron Emal of Deep River, IA, Nancy Peterson of Green Isle, Diane and Gordon Asfeld of Watertown, Donna and Gary Anderson of Shakopee, and Jeffrey Peterson of Watertown; grandchildren Michael Peterson, Natasha Peterson, Becky Peterson, Tyler “Chuck” Peterson, Troy and Nicole Peterson, Nicole and Brett Sutter, Amy and Darik Stein, Travis Peterson, Brianna Peterson, Kalvin Anderson, Kyle Anderson; great-grandchildren Ashley, Emily, and Callie; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Ken DeFor officiating. Visitation took place for two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Ronald W. Peterson, Jim Peterson, Jerry Peterson, Jeffrey Peterson, Troy Peterson, Michael Peterson, Tyler Peterson, and Travis Peterson.
