Eldon Chell Peterson, age 88, of Cokato, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at his home.
The funeral service will be Monday, June 22 at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato, with interment at Cokato City Cemetery.
Visitation took place Sunday, June 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, and will continue Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pall bearers will be Ryan Larson, Bryan Peterson, Heath Isaacson, Brent Anderson, Bill Harvey, Steve Fellrath, Judd Wheatley, and Dan Schabert. Honorary pall bearers are Vicky Harvey, Sandi Fellrath, Jennifer Peterson, Danielle Peterson, Dayna Peterson, Heather Wheatley, and Heidi Schabert.
Arrangements are by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
Eldon was born Feb. 15, 1921, in French Lake Township, to Chell and Mary Peteson. He was baptized at French Lake Aug. 28, 1921, and confirmed at French Lake Mission Oct. 11, 1936.
Eldon was united in marriage to Helen F. Holm March 20, 1946, at Albion Free parsonage. Arvid and Violet Shuneson were their witnesses. Their marriage was blessed with four children.
Eldon worked on farms in the Cokato and Dassel area for many years until he started working with the City of Cokato, where he retired as public works supervisor at age 65.
After retiring, he stayed busy working on lawn mowers, snowblowers, kitchen appliances, or anything mechanical.
A loving husband, dad, and grandpa, Eldon especially enjoyed going to baseball games, and watching hockey or anything else his children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren participated in.
His favorite hobby was fishing.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Helen, of Cokato; his children, Ruth (Dave) Mesick of Mound, Duane (Darline) Peterson of Excelsior, Bonnie (Loren) Isaacson of Mitchell, SD, and Todd Peterson (Stephanie Grover) of Cokato; grandchildren Vicki (Bill) Harvey, Sandi (Steve) Fellrath, Ryan Larson, Bryan, Jennifer, Danielle, and Dayna Peterson, Heather (Judd) Wheatley, Heidi (Dan) Schabert, Heath Isaacson, and Brent (Christina) Anderson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by a sister, Delores (Wally) Sorenson; sisters-in-law Edith (Omar) Peterson, and Arlene (Jim) Phinney; brothers-in-law Carl (Marg) Holm, Chester Holm, and Stanley Holm; and many nieces and nephews.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Violet Shuneson and Gladys Peterson; and a brother-in-law, Arvid Shuneson.
