Emma Marie Phillipe, age 97, of Colorado, formerly of Dassel and Cokato, died Friday, March 13, 2009.
She was born June 26, 1911, in Dassel, the daughter of Gustaf and Julia Nelson. Emma was baptized in the Christian faith at the Mission Covenant Church in Dassel in 1911, and confirmed June 23, 1923, at the same parish.
She attended and graduated from Dassel High School in 1929. Emma continued her education and graduated from Cokato Teacher Training in 1931.
She taught school in Meeker and Wright counties until she married George J. Phillipe Sept. 11, 1935.
The couple moved to Cokato in 1938, where George owned and operated Oakwood Hatchery.
In 1961, Emma received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from St. Cloud State University. She taught school in Meeker and Stearns counties for 25 years.
A member of the First Baptist Church, Emma faithfully served in various capacities.
She was a kind neighbor and loving friend to all who knew her.
Emma is survived by three sons, John (Linda) of Grand Junction, CO, Jim of Centennial, CO, and Paul (Karen) of Evergreen, CO; two sisters, Della of Dassel, and Ethel of Napa, CA; four grandchildren, Carrie (Brent) of Grand Junction, CO, Gwen (George) of Wayzata, Brett (Makiko) of Denver, CO, and Kristin (Mark) of Golden, CO; and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister; and one brother.
A family service was held in Colorado. A graveside service will take place in Dassel at a later date.
