Myron E. Raether, 70

Funeral services celebrating the life of Myron Emil Raether, age 70, of Plato took place Tuesday, Aug. 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown. Myron died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.

Myron was born Nov. 24, 1938, in Bergen Township, the son of Emil and Martha (Buckentin) Raether. He was baptized Dec. 11, 1938, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. J.A. Schert, and confirmed into the faith April 6, 1952, at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Glencoe by the Rev. A. H. Fillwock.

Myron grew up on a farm outside of Glencoe, attending First Lutheran School and later, the Glencoe High School.

He was united in marriage with Phyllis Tesch Bjork Oct. 10, 1970, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple made their home in Watertown, and later moved to Plato.

Myron was a dairy farmer his entire life.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown since March of 1972.

Myron enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, dancing, and playing cards, and he loved to watch baseball on TV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Phyllis.

Myron is survived by his stepchildren, Sharon Weinzierl (John) of Watertown, and Daniel Bjork (Judy) of St. Michael; grandchildren Jason Weinzierl (fiancée Fafani Bents) of River Falls, WI, Chad Weinzierl (Jennifer) of St. Michael, Mark Weinzierl of Watertown, Kari Beck (Dave) of St. Michael, Jennifer McAlpine (Dennis) of Big Lake, and Patrick Bjork of St. Michael; and great-grandchildren Samuel and Grace Weinzierl, Elise and Alary Weinzierl, and Oliver Bjork.

He is further survived by a brother, Darvin Raether (Ann) of Glencoe; nephews Greg Raether (Jenny) of Miltona, and Dean Raether of Glencoe; and great niece Malorie Raether; as well as other relatives and friends.

The Rev. Beth Johnson officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was Deb Olson. Soloist John Ahlquist sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns included “In the Garden,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation took place Monday evening, Aug. 10 at Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.

Serving as casket bearers were Jason Weinzierl, Chad Weinzierl, Mark Weinzierl, Patrick Bjork, Greg Raether, and Dean Raether. Honorary casket bearers were Kari Beck and Jennifer McAlpine.
