Eva J. Sanken Obituary – 1/9/09


Eva Joan Sanken, age 67, of South Haven, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

She was born Nov. 3, 1941, at Cokato to John and Elvira (Peterson) Carlson.

In 1959, she graduated from Dassel High School; and in 1964, graduated from St. Cloud State University.

Eva married Robert Sanken Aug. 13, 1966. She has lived in South Haven the past five years, previously living in Chaska, where she was an elementary teacher for 32 years. Joan previously taught in Princeton, Minnetonka, and Hanover Park, IL.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, played the piano at the Annandale Care Center, and supported the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Eva enjoyed music and family, especially her grandchildren. She always promoted humanitarian and environmental issues.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of South Haven; daughter Nikki Sanken (Rob Small) of Buffalo; grandchildren Alexander, Zachery, Carson and Sophie; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her parents, and sister, Gerda Ann Jacobson, preceded her in death.

Memorial service took place Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Annandale, with the Rev. DJ Lura officiating. Visitation preceded the memorial service for one hour at the church.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Eva has graciously donated her body to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program.
