Donald R. “Boots” Schmid, age 78, of Winsted, formerly of Dent, MN, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born May 1, 1930, in Victoria, to Raymond and Gertie (nee Unez) Schmid.
Donald honorably served in the US Army from 1947-1948.
He married Geraldine A. Johnson Oct. 11, 1952.
Donald retired from Lyman Lumber Company of Chanhassen in 1990, with 42 years of service.
Donald and Geraldine moved from Victoria to Dent in 1993, where they lived until he entered a nursing home in Perham spring 2006.
Donald moved to St. Mary’s Nursing home in Winsted in August 2007, where he passed on to eternal life with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his son, David John Schmid (2007), brothers Paul and Robert Schmid; sister Virginia Smith; and his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine “Gerry” Schmid of Winsted; three children, Nancy C. Schleeve of St. Peter, Ronald J. (Linda) Schmid of Winsted, and Pamela J. (Dave) Schulz of Holiday, FL; two brothers, Melvin and Douglas Schmid; five sisters, Shirley, Jean, Anita, Audrey, and Janice; five grandchildren, Jenny, Amy, Shelynn, Maria and R.J.; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends and other relatives.
A Mass took place Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted with Father Eugene Brown as the celebrant.
Further services took place Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent with Father Joe Herving officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
