Veronica Ann Schurmann, age 71, of New Germany died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson.
She was born May 12, 1938, in Hale Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Peter and Martha Pawlak Pawlicki.
Veronica graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1956, and was co-valedictorian.
She was joined in holy marriage with Robert J. Schurmann Oct. 26, 1957, at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with seven children.
Veronica and Bob engaged in dairy farming northwest of New Germany after their marriage, until 1990, when they continued to do cash crop farming.
A loving and caring person, Veronica was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed music, fishing, and traveling with her husband.
A faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, she belonged to CCW, the St. Anne’s Society, and Holy Family Council 204.
Veronica is survived by her loving husband of nearly 52years, Robert J. Schurmann; seven children: Debbie (Mark) Hill of Mayer, Laurel (Scott) Williams of Cologne, Russel (Lori) Schurmann of Watertown, Randy (Becky) Schurmann of Cokato, Mark (Kari) Schurmann, Dean Schurmann, all of New Germany, and Amy (Justin) Kylochko of Belle Plaine; grandchildren Stephanie (Jerry) Paumen, Jennifer (Matt) Hoernemann, Jessica (Steve) Morrissette, Valerie Hill and fiancé Kenny Steele, Amanda Hill and special friend Chet, Ashley (Scott) Swiggum, Krista Williams and special friend Dusty, Jeremy (Grace Ann) Schurmann, Hannah Schurmann and special friend Aaron, Charlie Schurmann, and Caressa Schurmann; and five great-grandchildren: J.P. Paumen, Jackson Paumen, Mason Hoernemann, and Liliana and Jack Schurmann.
She is further survived by a brother, Henry Pawlicki of Silver Lake; a sister, Dolores Schultz of Silver Lake; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lucille Gesinger of Garrison, Alice Hausladen of New Germany, Harold Schurmann of Frazee, and Geraldine (Glenn) Pysick of Watertown; and other relatives and many friends.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Martha Pawlicki; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Pauline Schurmann; and brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Theophil Schultz, Frank Gesinger, Henry Hausladen Jr., Luella Schurmann, and Lawrence Schurmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Tony Hesse was the celebrant. Music was provided by Alice Nowak, organist, with special music by Chuck Thiel. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation was Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a St. Anne’s Society Rosary recited at 4:30 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Casket bearers were Alan Mickolichek, Bruce Nowak, Paul Schultz, Brad Lokensgard, Donald Gesinger, and Douglas Gesinger.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
