Erna F. Schwerin Obituary – 7/27/09


Erna Freida Schwerin, age 101, of Delano, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at the Golden LivingCenter in Delano.

She was born Jan. 20, 1908, in Poblitz, Germany, to Theodore and Eveline (Barnett) Hermann.

Erna emigrated from Germany with her brother, Herbie, in 1926, and lived in the Delano/Montrose area ever since.

Erna was united in marriage to Marvin L. Schwerin in June of 1932.

She and Marvin farmed in the Montrose area until 1964, when they moved to Delano. While on the farm, they raised two children, Frank and Debra.

Erna was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aide since 1926.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; and siblings Kurt Hermann, Gerhardt Hermann, Gustav Hermann, Herbie Hermann, and Nora Kruger.

Erna is survived by her children, Frank and Joanne Schwerin, and Debra Coleman; five grandchildren: Jeri Lynn Schwerin, Paul Schwerin, Carolyn Luehmann, Meghan Coleman, and Matthew Coleman; and three great-grandchildren, Brittan Alstead, Ryder Alstead, and Avital Coleman.

The funeral service took place Thursday, July 30 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Delano with Pastor Richard Flynn officiating. Interment was in the Cassel Cemetery in Delano.

Visitation was Wednesday, July 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, and continued Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casket bearers were Matthew Coleman, Paul Schwerin, Jeri Schwerin, Jay Luehmann, Carolyn Luehmann, and Greg Youmans.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
