Elizabeth M. Seymour Obituary – 12/25/2009


Elizabeth Mary Seymour, age 91, of Winsted, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

She was born March 18, 1918, in rural Winsted, the daughter of John Vincent and Anna Isabella Rathmanner Kappel.

A Holy Trinity High School graduate, Elizabeth later also graduated from St. Cloud State University with a teaching degree.

Elizabeth was joined in holy marriage to Sylvester F. “Cy” Seymour Sept. 15, 1939, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by Father Wey. God blessed their marriage with two sons. Elizabeth and Cy just celebrated 70 years of marriage this past September.

Elizabeth started teaching in a one-room school west of Winsted, near Sherman Station. She also taught at Holy Trinity School for many years, retiring at the age of 70.

She was a faithful, lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and also belonged to Catholic Aid.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Sylvester F. “Cy” Seymour; sons Gary F. Seymour and Gregg (Kim) F. Seymour; two grandchildren: Matthew (Penny) Seymour and Kevin Seymour; two step-grandchildren: Mark Ballard and Michael Ballard; three great-grandchildren: Allison, Brady, and Cassidy Seymour; sisters Melinda and Veronica Kappel; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Rathmanner Kappel; a daughter-in-law, Joy Seymour; sisters Florentine and Lorraine; and a brother, Vince.

Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 27 from noon until 3 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.

Private burial took place Monday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
