Wayne Wilfred Shoutz, age 75, of Grove City, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
He was born Nov. 21, 1933, in Forest City Township, Meeker County, the son of Leslie and Signe (Knutson) Shoutz. Wayne was baptized and later confirmed. He received his education at the country school in Forest City.
Wayne entered active military service in the United States Army Dec. 11, 1956. He served his country as a cook and kitchen supervisor, and received an honorable discharge April 10, 1958.
Wayne was united in marriage to Sharon Lindquist Nov. 22, 1958, in Forest City. Their wonderful marriage was blessed with 10 children. Wayne and Sharon had 45 blissful years of marriage until Sharon passed away Feb. 18, 2003.
Wayne was employed as a cement mason until he retired in 1985.
He enjoyed playing the harmonica and violin-uke, yodeling, and singing for his children. He especially enjoyed old folk songs and “Strawberry Roan.”
Wayne enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting for coon, deer, and fox, and fishing and camping. He looked forward to the annual family camping trip. He also enjoyed playing cards.
Wayne truly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.
He is survived by his children: Scott Shoutz of Forest City, Kathryn Pearson and her husband, Wayne, of Hutchinson, Tammy Housman and her husband, David, of Litchfield, Randy Shoutz and his wife, Jan, of Maple Grove, Todd Shoutz and his wife, Sara, of Litchfield, Tina Young and her husband, John, of Forest City, Heidi Johnson and her husband, Jeff, of Litchfield, Lisa Dahl and her husband, Matt, of Grove City, Jamie Shoutz and his wife, Tricia, of Sauk Centre, and Jennifer Floren and her husband, Dan, of Litchfield; 16 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He also was looking forward to the birth of two new grandchildren.
Wayne is further survived by siblings, Milton Shoutz of Eden Valley, Lloyd Shoutz and his wife, Sharon, of Forest City, Ann Holmgren of Grove City, Peggy Knapp of Portland, OR, Janice Bollin of Grove City, Carol Malherek and her husband, John, of Litchfield, and Sherry Knutson and her husband, Walter, of Annandale, MN; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Sharon, Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Signe Shoutz.
Funeral services took place Friday, Dec. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield with Pastor Jim Hall officiating. Special music was provided by Melinda Zimmerman and JoAnn Irvin, who sang “On Eagle’s Wings,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Amazing Grace.”
Casket bearers were Jeremiah Shoutz, Samantha Shoutz, Kevin Young, Alex Young, Amanda Shoutz, and Ashley Shoutz.
