Lucy Stewart Obituary – 2/25/09


Lucy Stewart, age 85, of Cokato, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Lakeview Ranch in Dassel.

The funeral service will be Monday, March 2 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Cokato. Interment will follow at Cokato City Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, March 1 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service, at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, and will continue Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.

Lucy was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Stanley, WI, to George and Ethel Wiethoff. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Stanley, WI.

She graduated from Stanley High School in 1943, and married her best friend, Norman Stewart, Dec. 8, 1943. This marriage was blessed with the birth of two children: a daughter, Ruth Ann; and a son, Robert.

Lucy was a lifelong help- mate, helping on the farm with the field work and caring for the animals.

She was very active in the Walker Methodist Church in Howard Lake, where she taught and attended Sunday school, and was a member of the Women’s Society and Ladies Aide. She helped with many church suppers, and her favorite activity was to sing in the choir.

Lucy also enjoyed gardening, canning, camping, traveling, and taking pictures. She could be found baking, doing needlework, or studying her bible.

Lucy is survived by her husband, Norman; two children, Ruth Ann (Willard) Block of Silver Lake, and Robert G. Stewart of Cokato; granddaughter Michele (Shawn Mclane) of Stacey; step-granddaughters Angie (Henry) Fleece of Delta, PA, and Ronda Young of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Larry Block, Tony Young, Stephen Young, and Chloe Popelka; a sister, Marion (Orville) Stewart; and numerous nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; half-sister Eva Berg; and in-laws, Bud and June Hillmyer.
