Audrey A. Strey Obituary – 1/8/09


Audrey Ann Strey, age 74, of Lester Prairie, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at her home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Delano, the daughter of William Rudolph Grams and Marie Hannah (Knop) Grams. Audrey was baptized March 11, 1934, at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church by the Rev. Bruns, and confirmed in the faith at the same church March 30, 1947, by the Rev. Lenz.

She attended Delano District 48 school from 1941-1947, and the Delano Public High School, graduating in 1952.

Audrey was united in marriage with Earl Arthur William Strey June 1, 1957, at Mount Olive Lutheran by the Rev. Lenz. The couple lived in St. Louis Park until 1995, at which time they moved to their current home in Lester Prairie.

Audrey was employed by Minneapolis Moline from 1952 to 1971. She then began working for the City Of St. Louis Park, retiring in 1992.

Always active in her church, Audrey was a member of the church’s choir, head of the girl’s choir, and a member of the Lutheran Pioneers at Trinity Lutheran in St. Louis Park; and at St. Paul’s in Lester Prairie, she was been a member of both the church choir and its bell choir.

She was also presently serving as the secretary of the Senior Citizens group since 2000.

Audrey enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, and dancing to polka music.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Strey of Lester Prairie; brother Milo Grams (wife Beverly) of Waverly; sister Carol Nye (husband James) of St. Francis; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service was Sunday, Jan. 11, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Jane Holasek was the organist. The congregational hymns were “My Faith Looks Up To Thee” and “Nearer My God To Thee.” Soloist Marvin Westermann sang “In The Garden.” Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation and evening prayer service took place Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.

Serving as casket bearers were Rick Grams, Justin Yager, Kevin Knop, Dale Strey, Virgil Latzig. and Willard Schuette.
