Evelyn R. “Evie” Sudheimer, age 88, of Waconia, died Thursday April 16, 2009, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born June 19, 1920, in Waconia, the daughter of Henry and Crescentia R. “Grace” (Hipp) Braun. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia.
She was united in marriage to Elmer F. Sudheimer April 16, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia.
A loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and friend, Evelyn took great pleasure in playing cards and board games, and watching the Minnesota Twins, and other sports which her family participated in.
She was an active member of the Waconia VFW, past 4-H leader, and a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Evie cherished visiting with people, picking up their spirits when they were feeling down.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; son Lloyd Sudheimer; granddaughter Carrie Sudheimer; parents Henry and Grace Braun; brothers and sister-in-law Wilfred “Butch” and Rosella “Sally” Braun, and Raymond Peitz; sister and brother-in-law Gertrude and Ed Gentz; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond Hilk, and Edward and Lydia Sudheimer.
Evelyn is survived by her loving family: children and spouses Darrel and Joan Sudheimer, John and Louann Sudheimer, Carol Schrupp, all of Waconia, Pauline and Dale Huberty of Bloomington, Thomas and Brenda Sudheimer of Norwood Young America, and Mark Sudheimer and special friend Lori Voigt of Waconia; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Ann Hilk of Waconia; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday April 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia with Father Larry Blake as celebrant of the Mass.
Visitation was Monday, April 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with vigil prayers at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Tuesday for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Evie’s grandchildren were her casket bearers: Dayna Sudheimer, Nick Sudheimer, Jay Sudheimer, Scott Schrupp, Ryan Sudheimer, and Todd Sudheimer.
