Donna M. Wakefield Obituary – 4/2/09


Donna Marie Wakefield, age 79, of Litchfield, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home.

She was born May 27, 1929, in Watkins, the daughter of John and Lilly (Hanson) Johnson.

Donna attended high school in Litchfield, graduating in 1945.

She was united in marriage to Gerald Wakefield June 21, 1947, at the Ostmark Lutheran Church in Watkins.

Throughout her life Donna lived in the Forest City and Litchfield area. She worked for the Meeker County Deputy Register of Deeds and was abstractor for Thomton, Sperry and Jensen.

As a member of Ostmark Lutheran Church, she was active with WELCA. She was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, the DAV Auxiliary, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary, and served as past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Donna enjoyed reading, bowling, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca (and John) Breene of Cadottt, WI, Priscilla (and Bruce) Mumford of Litchfield, and Jameson (and Stacia) Wakefield of Buffalo; seven grandchildren: Sarah Piepenburg, Aaron (and Becky) Mumford, Brian (Sofya) Mumford, Elisabeth Mumford, Alec Wakefield, Braden Wakefield, and Brock Wakefield; and one great-grandchild, Atticus Mumford.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Gloria Boline, Myrt Johnson, and Regina Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald; brothers Donald Johnson, Vernon Johnson, Lincoln Johnson and Lyle Johnson; and sisters Frances Jorgensen, Eleanor Easley, and Margaret Elstad.

Funeral services were Monday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Ostmark Lutheran Church, rural Watkins, with Pastor Melinda Melhus officiating. Interment was in the Ostmark Lutheran Cemetery in Watkins.

Visitation took place Sunday, April 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
