JoAnn E. Wasser Obituary – 9/20/09


JoAnn E. Wasser, age 78, of Mayer, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

She was born March 16, 1931, in Mayer, the daughter of Otto L. and Louise A. (Hill) Wasser. JoAnn was baptized April 5, 1931, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. F.W. Erthal, and confirmed at the same church April 2, 1944, by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.

JoAnn graduated Waconia High School with honors in 1948. She then attended Concordia College in Seward, NE. Following her graduation from college, she taught school for 10 years, teaching at Clintonville, WI, Covina, CA, and New Germany.

JoAnn then was employed as a parish worker at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Excelsior for 20 years. In 1977, she resigned due to complications from multiple sclerosis, which she was diagnosed with when she was 32.

She entered Elim Nursing Home in 1985, where she spent her remaining years.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her father and mother, Otto and Louise Wasser; a sister, in infancy, Eunice Wasser; and brothers Wallace and Ardell Wasser.

She is survived by her brother and sisters-in-law, Lowell and Sharon Wasser of Mayer, and Avie Wasser of Watertown; nieces and nephews Linda Fiecke, Jon and Deb Wasser, Susan and Bruce Wandersee, David and Jill Wasser, Todd and Monica Wasser, and Scott Wasser; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service took place Wednesday Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Adam Gless officiating. Interment in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer.
