Rudolf Wassermann Obituary – 3/23/09


Rudolf Ernst Wassermann, age 87, formerly of Rockford and Maple Lake, died Monday, March 23, 2009, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.

He was born June 13, 1921, in Schermen, Germany, the son of Erich and Frieda Margenberg Wassermann.

Rudolf honorably served in the US Army as a staff sergeant during World War II.

He was a former owner of The Rockford Bakery in Rockford, and later worked at Byerly’s Bake Shop in Rockford.

Rudolf was a faithful member of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Wassermann; sons Rickard (Carolyn) Wassermann, Rudolf Wassermann Jr., Randal (Eileen) Wassermann, and Robert (Lisa) Wassermann; stepson Scott Kuehner; stepdaughter Diane Lynn Waara; seven grandchildren, Eric and Mark Wassermann, Ryan Waara, Lydia and Jacob Wassermann, and Megan and Samantha Wassermann; brothers Herbert (Virginia) Wassermann, and Alfred (Margie) Wassermann; a sister, Helen (Norman) Thomson; a brother-in-law, John Rose; and many other relatives and friends.

Rudolf was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene Wassermann; a brother, Erich F. Wassermann; a sister-in-law, Louise Wassermann; and by a sister, Elsbeth Rose.

Funeral services took place Friday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford with Rev. Michael Barlow officiating. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday, March 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continued Friday for one hour prior to the funeral service.

The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo served the family.
