LaVerna Lena Weege, age 89, formerly of Watertown, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was born May 1, 1920, in Woodland Township, Wright County, to Herman and Amelia Lemke Domjahn.
LaVerna was baptized at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany in May of 1920. She was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith Aug. 6, 1933, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.
LaVerna was married to Harold Weege Nov. 17, 1940, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in New Germany. God blessed their marriage with five children. They engaged in dairy farming near Buffalo until 1951.
LaVerna and Harold later moved to a farm in Hollywood Township, Carver County. They farmed there until 1967, when they purchased a home in Watertown.
A former member of Hollywood School Board District 24, LaVerna also formerly was employed at Umco in Watertown. She faithfully belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.
LaVerna enjoyed quilting, embroidering, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Amelia Domjahn; her husband, Harold G. Weege Oct. 5, 1981; a granddaughter, Amanda Weege; brothers Arthur, Alvin, and Alfred Domjahn; and by a sister-in-law, Evelyn Domjahn.
LaVerna is survived by five loving children: Harlan (Barbara) Weege of Dassel, Myron (Sally) Weege of Winona, LaDonna ( Duck) Hultgren of Huntley, MT, Marlys (Bill) Justice of Milbank, SD, and Alan (Lucy) Weege of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Orion and Faith Weege of Buffalo, Leona Mielke of Howard Lake, and Dolores Domjahn of Montrose; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services took place Friday, July 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Donald L. Taylor officiating. Interment followed at the Watertown Public Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, July 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Honorary casket bearers were LaVerna’s granddaughters: Karen Solberg, Christina Geck, Debbie Lynch, and Kelly Richard.
LaVerna’s grandsons were her casket bearers: Michael Weege, Troy Hultgren, Brian Weege, Myron Weege Jr., Todd Weege, Chris Weege, and Dustin Weege.
Arrangements were by the Peterson Chapel Buffalo Funeral Home.
