Evelyn M. Wilen Obituary – 9/12/09


Evelyn Marie (Niska) Wilen, age 69, of Twin Falls, ID, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009.

She arrived and was received with great joy, as the firstborn child of Melvin and Linda Niska, April 17, 1940, in Royal Oak, MI. Evelyn entered her Sabbath in Twin Falls, ID Sept. 12, 2009, after a journey of 69 years, four months, and 26 days of life.

The days of her youth, teen years, and early childhood were spent in the area around Minneapolis.

Evelyn and Dave Wilen were joined in the Covenant of Holy Matrimony Sept. 26, 1958. Their marriage of 42 years was blessed with two children, Craig and Chonne.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her son, Craig; her father and mother, Melvin and Linda Niska; father-in-law Fred Wilen; mother-in-law Edna Lindberg; three grandsons; a brother, Charles Niska; a sister, Marian Halberg; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Wilen.

She is survived by her daughter, Chonne Carter of Heyburn, ID; grandchildren Sarah, Heather, Aaron, Luke, Andrea, Analisa, Gabriel, Joel, Marisa, Chloe, and Yvonne; and great-grandchildren Clemente and Amora.

Evelyn is further survived by siblings Melvin Jr. and Ester Niska, Annette and David Carlson, Elsie and Dennis Muonio; Victor Niska, Lila and Wayne Schmidt, Edith and Edward Maki, Junetta and Gary Johnson, Leonard and Selina Lois, and Eunice Burns; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Eleanor Niska, and Arthur Halberg; uncles and aunts Sivert Hendrickson, Nina Lobbestael, Estella Hendrickson, Laila Cichosz, Carol Jean Hendrickson, and Anna Mae and Tom Koski; sister-in-law Fern Rettinger; and brothers-in-law Lance and Barbara Wilen, Carl and Betty Wilen, Duane and Evie Wilen; as well as many other relatives, friends, and acquaintances.

Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Iten Funeral Chapel in Delano, with interment in the Delano Public Cemetery. Lunch was served at the KC Hall in Waverly following the interment.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
