Dwayne Wischmann Obituary – 12/26/2009


Dwayne Lawrence Wischmann, age 79, of Dassel, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at the Lakeside Health Care Center of Dassel.

He was born July 29, 1930, the son of Lawrence William and Myrtle (Johnson) Wischmann, on the family farm northwest of Litchfield in Harvey Township, Meeker County. Dwayne was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at a Lutheran church in Grove City.

He grew up in the Grove City area and graduated from Grove City High School in 1948.

After graduating from high school, Dwayne was inducted into the US Army. He served in the Korean Conflict from 1952 through 1953, and received a Bronze Star.

Dwayne was united in marriage to Dorothy Kahmeyer Feb. 9, 1952, in Litchfield. After returning from the service, the couple made their home in the Dassel area, where Dwayne was employed at the Auto See Ads Sign Company from 1954 until 1959.

He then was employed by Storm Industries from 1960 until 1980, when he partnered with his good friend, Donald Bollman, and they owned and operated Jay-Dee industries from 1980 until 1995, when Dwayne retired.

Dorothy preceded him in death in September 1999.

In October of 2001, Dwayne was united in marriage to Barbara Swanson. They made their home in Dassel, and traveled to Arizona during the winters.

Dwayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also liked to spend every spare moment on the golf course during the summer. He loved to go to their summer cabin in northern Minnesota on Cross Lake.

Dwayne had been an active member of the Dassel Zoning and Planning Board, a member of the Rotary Club, and served on the Marquette Bank Board, Board of Governors of Firelake Mfg., LLC; and the Dassel Red Rooster Committee.

He also was a dedicated fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. He will deeply be missed by his family and his friends.

In addition to his first wife, Dorothy, Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his spouse, Barbara Wischmann of Dassel; sons Randall (Diane) Wischmann of Dassel, and Kent (Julie Ann) Wischmann of Delano; stepchildren Dan (Loni) Swanson, David (Anita) Swanson of Glencoe, Dee Ann (Dennis) Gritti of Coon Rapids, and Dennis (Carmen) of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, Jordan (Greta Gustafson) Wischmann, Talia (Ben) Fontana, Leah Wischmann, Siri Wischmann, and Anna Wischmann, six step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Fontana; and two step great-grandchildren.

Dwayne is further survived by siblings Glenard (Kelly) Wischmann of St. Cloud, Delbert (Jeri Jo) Wischmann of Becker, Merton (Sue) Wischmann of Little Falls, and Sharon (Chuck) McCormick of Parker, CO; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Revs. Steven Olson and John Peterson officiating. Florine Osness was the organist. Soloist Nate Alj sang “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “O Holy Night.” Congregational hymns were “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and “Good Christian Friends Rejoice.” Interment was at the Dassel Community Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and continued Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casket bearers were Steve Wischmann, Eric Wischmann, Chris Wischmann, Chad Wischmann, Doug Rueckert, and Russell Rueckert.

Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
