Harvey W. Wolter Obituary – 12/22/2009


Harvey W. Wolter, age 89, of Norwood Young America, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

He was born June 4, 1920, in Benton Township, Carver County, the son of John Gottfried and Margaret (Willemsen) Wolter. Harvey was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards by Rev. Berkenkamp.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy K. Schmitz Nov. 20, 1948, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards by Rev. Oppermann.

Harvey had a huge soft spot for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being very proud of all of them. He loved to take Sunday drives, going windshield farming, checking out the various crops that were planted. He had a kind soul, always giving of himself and not expecting anything in return.

Harvey had a great passion for baseball, going to many of the local games played in the area. He loved draft horses, going fishing, old tyme music, and playing cards, especially sheephead. One of his favorite pastimes was taking pictures of anything and everything.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents John Gottfried and Margaret Wolter; father-in-law and mother-in-law Edward and Anna Schmitz, sons-in-law David Albers, and John Beneke; brothers Marvin Wolter, and Erwin “Cliff” Wolter; and sister Marcella Fillbrandt.

He is survived by his loving family: daughters and son-in-law Sharon Beneke of Glencoe, and Linda and Tim Born of North Branch; grandchildren Laura and Josh Keyser, Kati Albers, Mitch and Kim Born, and Matt Born; great-grandchildren Dakota, Kylee, Alyssa, Luke and Helen; sister-in-law Harriet Thoele of Bloomington; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Monday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards with the Rev. Richard Mark officiating. Interment was at St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with a chapel service at 6:30 p.m.; and continued Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casket bearers were Laura Keyser, Kati Albers, Mitch Born, Matt Born, David Wolter, and Danny Wolter.
