Charles W. Asplin Obituary – 2/23/2010

Charles Walter Asplin, age 36, of Dassel, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, in St. Cloud.

He was born June 24, 1973, in Litchfield, the son of Russell and Norma (Anderson) Asplin. Charles grew up in the Dassel area, where he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, and helping with farm work.

He was baptized and confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel.

Charles enjoyed life and had a spark for adventure. From jumping out of an airplane, to mountain climbing, he would give it a try.

He enjoyed hunting and was a crack shot, traveling many times to Canada to go goose hunting with his father. He also enjoyed cards, and was a cribbage shark.

A caring person, Charles would try to help others in their time of need. He will be missed deeply by his family and his friends.

Charles is survived by his mother, Norma Asplin of Dassel; siblings Todd (Sharon) Asplin of Dassel, Kathy (David) Holmberg of New Hope, Tim Asplin, and Darrin (Jody) Asplin, all of Dassel; and nieces and nephews James and Anne Holmberg, and Jasper, Gavin, Dalton, and Sanders Asplin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A memorial service took place Saturday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, with a time to gather with family one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Steven Olson officiated. Interment of the urn will take place at the Steelsville Cemetery in spring.

The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
