Funeral services for Donald Edward Baumann, age 71 of Buffalo, formerly of Howard Lake, and Westhope, ND, took place Friday, March 5, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Westhope. Donald died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.
He was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Westhope, ND, a son of Winthrop and Mabel (Feken) Baumann. Donald was reared there and in 1957, he graduated from Westhope High School.
He attended Minot State College and received a bachelor’s degree with emphases in history, social studies, and business education. He then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where he graduated in 1969, with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling.
Donald went on to teach at Jeffers, MN and later Howard Lake. He taught world and American history, accounting, shorthand, and typing along with guidance counseling.
In May of 2009, he moved into the Park View Care Center in Buffalo.
Donald was a lifelong member of the Catholic church.
In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and playing sports with his siblings and friends. Later, he took great pride in assisting students receive scholarships to further their education.
Donald is survived by his sister, Barbara and her husband, Dyron Rauk of Atlanta, GA; three brothers, Larry Baumann and his wife, Bobbie of Bottineau, ND; Terry Baumann and his wife, Janice of Westhope, ND, and Jim Baumann and his wife, Marie of Artesia, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Officiating at the 10 a.m. funeral service was the Rev. Father Paul Schuster. Amber Thorenson was the organist and St. Andrew’s Church choir provided special music. Interment was at the Westhope Cemetery.
Casket bearers were all family and friends in attendance.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Westhope.
