Lois Priscilla Berg, age 68, of Cokato, formerly of Howard Lake, died Friday, March 19, 2010, after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 24, 1941, in Stockholm Township, rural Howard Lake, the daughter of Roy and Amelia (Drawert) Cochran. Lois was baptized Dec. 7, 1941, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake by the Rev. Eugene Seltz, and confirmed in her faith at the same church April 3, 1955, by the Rev. Theo. Melinat.
Lois attended Howard Lake schools.
She was married to Gary Mapes Dec. 23, 1956, at St. James Lutheran Church by Rev. Melinat. Their marriage was blessed with five children.
Lois enjoyed antiquing, puzzles, gardening, and “putzing” with things. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Amelia Cochran; sisters Gloria, Delores, and Gladys; brothers Gaylen, Gibson, and Gordy.
Lois is survived by her longtime companion, William Haavisto; children Jeff (Leah) Mapes, Jon (Puni) Mapes, Joe (Gwen) Mapes, Jason (Wendy) Mapes, and Jayne (Glenn) Schmandt; brother Ron (Arlene) Cochran; sister Karen (Rob) Duraine; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two future arrivals; nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
The funeral service took place Tuesday, March 23 at St. James Lutheran in Howard Lake with the Revs. Martin Schoenfeld and Michael Nirva officiating. Diane Johnson served as the organist. Interment took place at the Howard Lake Cemetery preceding visitation and the service at the church.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
