Eugene G. Borseth Obituary – 4/25/2010


Eugene Grow Borseth, age 75, of Nevis, MN, formerly of Cokato, died unexpectedly at his home in Nevis Sunday, April 25, 2010.

Gene was born Nov. 1, 1934, in Wadena, the son of Olaf and Edythe (Grow) Borseth. He was the sixth of eight children.

At age 11, his family relocated to south Minneapolis. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952.

Gene served in the US Navy Reserves and Army as a mechanic.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Duncan Oct. 26, 1956, at Minnehaha Congregational Church in South Minneapolis. They settled in Cokato, where they owned and operated Lakeside Floral Company until 1978.

Gene and his family then moved to Nevis, where he worked in construction, remodeling and land development.

For the past 12 years, he and Barbara spent the winter months at their retirement home in Port Charlotte, FL.

Gene found joy in doing things for others, growing and harvesting trees, building homes and cabinetry, and entertaining others with his beautiful singing voice.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son Eric (Michelle) Borseth of St. Peter; daughter Britta (Jeff) Barth of Cokato; grandchildren Kaylen, Catheryn, Tessa and Daniel; and siblings Gloria, Marilyn, Ramona, Lorna, Phyllis and Jerry.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Helene.

A memorial services took place Friday, April 30 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake. A memorial service will also take place in the Nevis area, to be scheduled sometime in June of 2010.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Nevis.
