Wesley William Henry Brelje, age 79, of Monticello and Aitkin, was called home by his Savior, Jesus Christ Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in Buffalo.
He was born June 26, 1931, to George and Lillian (Grochow) Brelje in Sibley County, New Auburn, MN. Wesley was baptized July 12, 1931, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn by Pastor Hans Werner. He was confirmed in his faith March 25, 1945, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe by Pastor Alfred Streufert. Wesley’s confirmation verse was Psalm 37:4: “Delight thyself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
His education was at a rural school.
Wesley was united in marriage to Deloris Louise Kuntz Oct. 5, 1952, by Pastor Fisher in Lester Prairie. They lived in Glencoe, Inver Grove Heights, and Aitkin, MN; and Clermont, FL.
In his early years, Wesley worked on farms near Litchfield and Glencoe. After their marriage, Wesley and Deloris moved to Inver Grove Heights, where Wesley worked for the Armour Packing Company.
Wesley enjoyed his lake home at Aitkin, going to auctions, and refurbishing almost anything especially hammer handles. He also loved spending winters in Florida; going to as many flea markets as possible, as well as eating out with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Fred Leske; sisters and brothers-in-law Elizabeth (Milton) Klitzke, HeLene (Alvin) Doering, Ethel Wassink, Gladys (Elroy) Voigt, and Agnes (William) Schaefer; brothers Earl, Roger, and George Jr.; and brothers-in-law Gilbert Oelfke, and Charles Rolf.
Wesley is loved and will be deeply missed by Deloris, his wife of 58 years; daughter Cheryl (Roger) Kocherer of Savage; son Kenneth Brelje of South Saint Paul; grandsons James (Bridgette) Kocherer of Big Lake, and Michael Kocherer of Champlin; granddaughter Heather Brelje of New Brighton; and great-grandchildren Madeline, Ethan and Kaylee Kocherer.
He is further survived by a sister, Stella Oelfke of Shakopee; brothers Gerald Leske of Del Rey Beach, FL, and Delford (Irene) Leske of Winthrop; brother-in-law Vernon Wassink of South Saint Paul; sisters-in-law Betty Lou Rolf of Burnsville, and Beverly Schiller (Don) of Lafayette, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special family friend, Marilyn Hoffies; and many other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were handled by McBride-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
