He was born April 12, 1945, in Minneapolis, the second son of Philip Carlson and Alma (Gilbertson) Carlson. Boyd grew up in Howard Lake, enjoying many hours helping at his dad’s variety store.

Boyd married Marilyn Montgomery Aug. 24, 1968, in their home church, First Presbyterian Church, Howard Lake. Their marriage was blessed with two sons and one daughter.

They resided briefly in Saint Paul and Blaine, but lived most of their married life in Hutchinson, where Boyd was an administrator at Ridgewater College for 26 years.

Later in life, Boyd pursued his love for inventing, music, and writing, and even started a small toy company (Fidgets) with his son.

Boyd was an avid outdoorsman his whole life. He loved fishing and hunting, and also enjoyed a variety of sports.

His greatest loves, however, were God and his family, and the way he lived showed that. A loving husband, a devoted father, and a wonderful grandfather, Boyd lived a life of integrity, faithfulness, and thoughtfulness for others. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
