Daniel W. Ceske Obituary – 4/2/2010


Daniel William Ceske, age 84, of Hutchinson, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.

He was born April 4, 1925, in De Graff, MN, the son of Joseph and Fannie (Smith) Ceske. Daniel was baptized July 18, 1926, at Sacred Heart Church in Murdock, MN, and confirmed in his faith June 8, 1956, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in De Graff, MN.

Daniel received his education at District 10 country school in Louriston Township, Chippewa County, MN.

He entered active military service in the US Army Dec. 20, 1944, and served his country during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, receiving an honorable discharge Nov. 5, 1946.

Daniel was united in marriage to June (Sundberg) Luckow June 22, 1963, at the Catholic church in Willmar.

Daniel and June resided in New London and Willmar, along with June’s four children, Gregory, Sheryl, Gary and Sandra. This marriage was then blessed with one son, Douglas.

In 1981, the family moved to Grand Junction, CO, and in 1990, Daniel and June moved back to Minnesota. They shared almost 35 years of marriage, until June passed away July 15, 1998.

Daniel was united in marriage to Pearl Skoog Aug. 2, 2003, at Lake Jennie Covenant Church in rural Dassel. Daniel and Pearl resided in Hutchinson, and shared six years of marriage.

Daniel held employment as a farmhand in the De Graff area until 1952. He then worked for Duinnicks Brothers in Prinsburg until 1981.

In Colorado, he worked at the Grand Junction Pipeline Company and Hydro Conduit. After moving back to Minnesota, Daniel held employment at Linco Seed Company in Dassel, and later, Best Manufacturing in Hector, until 2004, when his health would no longer permit him to work.

Daniel was a member of Lake Jennie Covenant Church. He was also a member of the Hutchinson VFW Post 906.

He enjoyed going out to eat and traveling; and loved to go sightseeing. Daniel especially enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, Pearl, and his children and grandchildren.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Fannie Ceske; wife June Ceske; sisters Mary Schafer, Fanny Mrozek, Lucille Garbrich, and Rose Ceske; and brothers George Ceske and Lawrence Ceske.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Ceske of Hutchinson; son Douglas Ceske of Holtom City, TX; stepchildren Greg Luckow of Saginaw, TX, Sheryl Davis of Mariposa, CA, Gary Luckow of Montevideo, and Sandra Sandon of Florida; sisters Florence Grendahl of Pennock, MN, and Ann Wyatt of Royce City, TX; brother David Ceske of De Graff, MN; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was Tuesday, April 6 at 2 p.m. at Lake Jennie Covenant Church, rural Dassel, with Pastor Douglas Pierce officiating. Diane Blackwood and Lorane Peterson were the organists. Special music was provided by Arlene Prieve and Marybeth Reynolds, who sang “Under His Wings” and “No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus.” Congregational hymns were “Victory In Jesus,” “Because He Lives,” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” Interment was in the church cemetery, with military honors provided by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.

Casket bearers were David Prieve, Lowell Peterson, Jr.; Steve Peterson, Jim Matson, Kenneth Swanson, and Bruce Williams.
