Evelyn Dorothy Diers, age 90, of Howard Lake, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center.
She was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Howard Lake, the daughter of Otto and Ella (Gruenhagen) Birkholz.
A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, Evelyn was baptized Dec. 21, 1919, by the Rev. A.L. Oetjen, and confirmed in her faith April 9, 1933, by the Rev. C.G. Seltz.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Elroy Diers Sept. 15, 1939, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, by the Rev. E.N. Seltz. This union was blessed with four children.
They made their home and living on the Diers’ family farm south of Howard Lake.
Evelyn enjoyed being active in the Wright County Home Extension program, and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of St. James Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ella Birkholz; husband Elroy; brother Willis Birkholz; brother-in-law Vernon Diers; sister-in-law Erna Diers; and daughter-in-law Geneva Diers.
Evelyn is survived by her three sons, Stanley and wife Sharon, Ralph and wife Nancy, all of Howard Lake, and Joel and wife Sylvia of Maple Lake; daughter Sandra of Howard Lake; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of family and friends.
The funeral service took place Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Special music was provided by the women of the St. James LWML, and Marge Stueven as soloist. Nancy Butterfass served as the organist. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Visitation was Friday, April 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
