Dr. William Lawrence Diggins (Dr. Bill), age 78, of Harlingen, TX, a former Winsted physician, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, in St. Paul.
Just prior to his death, Bill and his wife, Lois, had spent an active and pleasant summer at the family cottage on the shore of his beloved Lake Superior, near his hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. They were traveling back to their permanent home in Texas and had stopped briefly to visit family when Bill’s illness struck. He was cared for by outstanding medical professionals at United Hospitals in St. Paul.
Bill leaves a legacy as a devoted husband, loving and patient father and grandfather, and brilliant medical diagnostician.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois; two daughters, Janet Burleigh (Michael), and Holly Murdoch (Blair); two sons, Clay Diggins (Deb), and Arthur “Rick” Diggins; eight grandchildren, Mark and Ben Lehtovaara (and their father, son-in-law David Lehtovaara), Caly Burleigh, Graham, Dan and Billy Murdoch, and Jessie and Mackenzie Diggins; three step grandchildren, Nora Jones (Mike), and Anna and Andrew Burleigh; and two step-great-grandchildren, Lily Marie Jones, and Asher James Jones.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Oct. 30 in Texas. Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 1417 E. Austin, Harlingen, TX 78550.
