Darrel L. Driver, 60

Darrel Lee Driver, age 60, of Montrose, passed away suddenly Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010.

He was born Oct. 22, 1949, in Litchfield, the son of Ralph and Ruth Nicol Driver.

Darrel graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1967.

He honorably served his country in the US Navy.

Darrel was joined in marriage with Bonnie Ann Marketon Aug. 11, 1972, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with three children.

Darrel was employed many years as a carpenter in bridge construction. He belonged to Carpenters Local 1644.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, driving for Holt Motors, woodworking, refinishing old pieces of furniture, going to garage sales and flea markets, and listening to Tradio on KRWC Radio.

Darrel was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly, and belonged to The Knights of Columbus Council 1556 in Waverly.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Bonnie A. Driver; children Michelle (Mike) Althoff of Maple Lake, Brad (Heidi) Driver, and Scott Driver, all of Montrose; and four grandchildren Tyanna Driver, Hunter Driver, Abby Althoff and Aaron Althoff.

Darrel is further survived by two sisters, Sylvia (Roy) Henry of Montrose, and Glady (Darrell) Lachermeier of Howard Lake; a sister-in-law, Char Driver of Waverly; his father-in-law, Ed Marketon of Waverly; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Phil (Vicki) Marketon and Bernard (Margaret) Marketon, all of Howard Lake, Kathy (Jim) Diaker of St. Cloud, Mike (Jeanie) Marketon of Montrose, Patty (Kurt) Kruckman of Glencoe, and Bob (Brenda) Marketon of Buffalo; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth Driver; a brother, Jerry Driver; a sister, Jean Dalbec; and by his mother-in-law, Florence Marketon.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly with Father Timothy Cloutier as the celebrant. Interment with military rites followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday, Aug. 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Casket bearers were Mike Althoff, Heidi Driver, Melanie Marketon, Jeremy Driver, Duane Bodin, and Jill Marketon.

Darrel’s grandchildren were honorary casket bearers.
